Research

The Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute supports interdisciplinary research and partnership working through a range of schemes, which facilitate collaborations between a wide range of researchers and partners beyond the University of Leeds. You can find out more about projects funded through these schemes through this page. We showcase the latest arts and humanities research, including by providing a platform for recordings of inaugural lectures given by professors in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures.

LAHRI Network Grants

LAHRI Network Grants support innovative interdisciplinary and collaborative research across and beyond the arts and humanities. Offering funding which can be used flexibly for a wide range of activities, they aim to develop new strong research networks which can address research questions which require collaboration across disciplinary lines. Awards foster the generation and development of new ideas and research agendas and provide a platform for ongoing exchange and collaboration.

The Sapling Fund

The Sapling Fund is jointly delivered by the Cultural Institute and Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute. The Sapling Fund is designed to support colleagues from across the University of Leeds in developing an interdisciplinary research or impact project rooted in the arts and humanities in collaboration with at least one non-HE partner in the cultural, arts or third sector. The scheme is supported by the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF).

Sadler Seminars 2015-2024

Our Sadler Seminar Series has supported innovative interdisciplinary research projects across and beyond the arts and humanities. Since the first series in 2015, we have hosted a huge range of research projects, many of which have gone on to pioneer new ways of interdisciplinary working and secure major external funding.

LUCAS-LAHRI Virtual Visiting Research Fellowships

The Virtual Visiting Research Fellowships are a collaboration between LAHRI and the University's Centre for African Studies (LUCAS). The short-term Fellowships are for academics based at institutions on the African continent, who through these positions have the opportunity to undertake a well-defined piece of research in collaboration with academics at Leeds.

Inaugural lectures

Professors in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures present their research visions in their inaugural lectures.

British Academy Lectures

Each year, in association with the British Academy, we invite one speaker to give their public lecture here at the University of Leeds.

Arts + Humanities Futures

Recent years have brought extraordinary and ongoing challenges to societies and cultures, as well as bringing long-standing crises and predicaments to the foreground in new ways. Through two series, these interdisciplinary discussions stimulate larger conversations about how research communities might respond to these challenges – and about the futures we want to imagine and realise.

AHRC Showcase 2024

We're pleased to share the projects presented during the 2024 AHRC Showcase, which celebrates the diverse and impactful research supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
