After Orpheus, After Monteverdi - An Opera North and University of Leeds seminar

What happens creatively when different musical traditions are brought together? How might creative artists rethink and reimagine the stories that underpin human experience?

For Jasdeep Singh Degun, the co-music director for Orpheus, Opera North’s new staging of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, “the challenge has been to find the right balance between the different sound worlds, to allow the Indian classical music and the Monteverdi opera to co-exist”.

Join us for a series of conversations as creative artists, composers, performers and academics discuss the ways in which opera can imaginatively and innovatively bring together different traditions, myths, story-telling techniques and musical traditions.

Speakers include Jasdeep Singh Degun (Opera North Artist in Residence), Keran Kaur Virdee (South Asian Arts-uk) Amy Freston (Chorus of Opera North), and Dr Charulatha Mani (University of Tasmania), in conversation with Professor Edward Venn (DARE Academic in Residence).
