Memoirs of a POW (7-10 May)

Date

Memoirs of a POW – 7th-10 May

Professor Christiana Gregoriou (School of English) and Professor George Rodosthenous (School of Performance and Cultural Industries) present their dramatization of a British Army Second World War memoir across four Yorkshire venues as part of the commemoration of the 80 anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

The dramatization is part of Gregoriou and Rodosthenous’ project into enhancing public understanding of diversity in, and the functionalities of military life, explored through performance. The project uses archival materials, including the 237-page POW memoir of Gregoriou’s grandfather, Cypriot sergeant Phylactis Aristokleous (British Army).

The Second World War Experience Centre [SWWEC], Eden Camp Modern History Museum, the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds and the York Army Museum are partners in this project.
